T-Mobile's new 3G Sidekick

T-Mobile Sidekick LX

T-Mobile Sidekick LX

Here in New York City, just 2 or 3 years ago it used to be that if you found yourself on a city bus when middle or high school let out you would be beseiged by kids who would be talking to and messaging each other on their cell phones. Overwhelmingly, that phone was a T-Mobile Sidekick. If you timed it just right it could seem like you were a part of a giant, global TV commercial for the phone.

These days, pre-teens and teens (and everyone else) have other popular options – like the iPhone, Palm Centro and dozens of other youngster-friendly designs. But, you still see a lot of Sidekicks among the younger set.

So, it’s not surprising that T-Mobile has updated the handset to work on their new 3G network. The just announced Sidekick LX also has a 3.2 MP camera, GPS searching capabilities and provides one-click access to the most popular social networking sites. Facebook, MySpace and Twitter can be accessed through customized applications that update automatically and put notifications directly on the Sidekick home screen. They know their audience.

Pre-orders are available now at sidekick.com. The LX officially goes on sale May 13th. Price TBA.
